💩 Pooping 101: The Bristol Stool Chart 📊
Not all poop is created equal. Here are the different types and what they mean for gut health.

Gm PoopMates.
Poop is the most underrated biomarker that is no one is talking about. We’re gonna change that, one brick at a time. 🧱

ONE CHART TO RULE THEM ALL (and in the fartness bind them)

The Bristol Stool Chart
Created by Dr. Kenneth Heaton in 1997, this chart breaks down poop into seven categories based on consistency and form. Whether you're dealing with constipation, diarrhea, or you’re blessed with perfect soft snakes every morning, the Bristol Stool Chart has you covered 🤝.

What Does Your Poop Mean?
As you can see from the chart above, there are 7 smelly categories on the Bristol Stool Chart. Here’s what the different types of poop can tell you about your gut:
Types 3 & 4: The Gold Standard 🥇
If your poop looks like Type 3 or 4, dap yourself up, Queen 💅. These are considered the healthiest types and indicate smooth sailing in the bowel department.
Types 1 & 2: Constipation Crash out 🚨
Hard, lumpy stools can be a sign of constipation, meaning things might be moving too slowly in your digestive system. Drinking more water (skrrt tap water) and adding fiber to your diet can help get things back on track.
Types 6 & 7: Diarrhea Danger Zone 💦
If your poop is loose, mushy, or watery, it’s speeding through your system too quickly. This could be a sign of digestive distress. Make sure to stay hydrated and consider what foods may be triggering the issue.
Type 5: Borderline ⚖️
Soft blobs? You might be on the verge of diarrhea or not getting enough fiber in your diet. Now is probably a good time to load up on fiber-rich foods to stay balanced, including options like fruit, carrots, and psyllium husk.

TFW you notice your arch nemesis has pooped nothing but type 3 and 4s for the last 4 years straight (impeccable gut health)
Why Tracking Your Sh*t Is Important
The Bristol Stool Chart is more than just a poop classifier. It’s an important tool used by healthcare professionals to assess bowel health, diagnose digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and evaluate treatment effectiveness. Whether you’re chatting with your doctor or simply checking in with yourself, knowing you sh*t can provide valuable insights into your gut health.
